WonderLab Engineer Internship

🛠️ WonderLab Engineer Internship

Program Overview

If you love to create, build, and work with your hands, this is your ultimate playground. We are looking for builders, makers, and spatial designers for an extraordinary, hands-on residency at North Oaks Church.

This track is built specifically for people who want to bring physical spaces to life. You will not be sitting behind a desk or fetching coffee. Instead, you will be in the workshop actively building, designing, and fabricating the themed components for our newest massive initiative: Funadoo—a highly interactive, camp-Western themed kids' play space on campus that will play host to live music, the arts, homespun storytelling, and backyard games.

You will learn how to turn raw timber, creative ideas, and scenic design into physical, touchable mini-worlds that captivate the imagination.

What You Will Master

  • Set Design & Theming: Learn how to conceptualize and build large-scale physical environments, transforming a standard room into a fully realized Western camp setting.

  • Artisanal Carpentry: Gain practical skills in woodcraft, from blueprint layout and safe tool utilization to structural engineering and building custom wooden games.

  • Sensory World-Building: Learn how to seamlessly blend physical woodcraft and sets with strategic environmental audio to create an unforgettable, multi-sensory experience.

  • Interactive Entertainment Layout: Design and build the physical parameters for "backyard style" games and performance stages that drive high engagement for kids and families.

World-Class Mentorship

This unique internship offers direct, side-by-side mentorship under Joe Herrington and Johnny Juarez. While Joe is globally recognized as a veteran Principal Media Designer in the theme park entertainment industry, he is also a true master craftsman, author, and Western storyteller.

Working with Joe and Johnny, you will learn the exact physical fabrication secrets and environmental design rules used to build world-renowned attractions. You will see firsthand how a master craftsman manipulates physical materials, acoustic design, and structural flow to cultivate wonder in a local church community setting.

Is This for You?

This program is ideal for aspiring Scenic Designers, Creative Directors, Spatial Engineers, Prop Builders, or anyone with a deep passion for the intersection of ministry, structural fabrication, and physical arts. If you are a creator who isn't afraid to get sawdust on your boots and wants to build a lasting space for the next generation, the WonderLab is calling.
